GK LightRail

GK LightRail

GK LIGHTRAIL are low voltage systems that offers you a complete line of components allowing you to create a lighting plan for any room in your home. It consists of flexible rail, a wide array of fixtures and glass, and a variety of transformers that will adapt to all lighting needs. A complete line of accessories are offered to allow your vision to come to light.

Let your imagination be your guide and enjoy the GK LIGHTRAIL system.

Getting Started

To begin the process of selecting what is right for your needs, it is important to answer a few questions:

  1. What is the function of the rail system; is it general room light, is it to perform a task (light a picture), or is it purely decorative?
  2. Determine the size of the room and the general path of the rail.
  3. How high is the ceiling? Is there a slope to the ceiling?

By answering these simple questions, your showroom representative will be able to assist you in designing your very own custom GK LIGHTRAIL system.

Step 1

Designing your lighting system

Use the answers from the Getting Started section to help layout your GK LIGHHTRAIL system. If there is an existing outlet box on the ceiling, your system needs to intersect at this point. Measure the space and draw the layout for the rail. Remember the rail is bendable. With all of the different connectors the only limit is your imagination.

Step 2

Designing your rail

GK LIGHTRAIL is available in 48” and 96” lengths in two finishes, Brushed Nickel and Sable Bronze Patina. Select the finish you desire and measure the length based on your initial drawing. Add the connectors to join the rail together. Be creative and have fun.

Step 3

Choose your standoffs

Standoffs should be placed no further than 3’ apart. Measure the ceiling height and where the rail is to be situated. The rail should not be placed any lower than 7’ from the floor. Use the rail standoff guide to determine which standoffs should be used. The standoffs are telescopic and come with a hang-straight swivel for higher, sloped ceilings. All standoffs, excluding the 2 and ¾”, come standard with a hang-straight swivel.

Step 4

Select your fixtures

The GK LIGHTRAIL offers many different types of fixtures. Pendants, flexible, and fixtures are available in various lengths offering many options. Choose the style and type that best fit your lighting needs.

The standard fixtures come in four different lengths; 3”, 6”, 9” and 12” stems.

The pendants fixtures come standard with 72” lead wire that is adjustable.

The flexible fixture is a standard 18”

Step 5

Choose your shades

GK LIGHTRAIL offers many shade options. You can mix and match colors and shapes to suit your tastes. All of the Series 1 shades work on all the Series 1 fixtures and all Series 6 shades work on Series 6 fixtures. The new Series 4 fixtures are compatible with our low voltage GK LightRail Systems, as well as with our Mono and Multi-Point Canopies.

Step 6

Select your transformer and power feed

Add up the total number of fixtures and the length of the rail to determine what transformer would be best for your layout. Each surface mount transformer includes a power feed for a standard 8’ ceiling. If using a remote transformer, or if the ceiling is higher than the standard 8’, you must use one of the adjustable power feeds.

Casablanca Fan: Motors

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Unlike most ceiling fan companies, Casablanca designs and manufacturers its own motors. Each is meticulously crafted from premium components and incorporates industry-leading design innovations that create more power while maintaining cooler operating temperatures.

casablanca fansThe XLP-2000, XLP-2100 and XLP Plus were engineered to provide more power. Increased power generates greater air movement, which adds to environmental comfort. In conjunction with Casablanca’s patented Silent-Flex flywheel, which absorbs vibration and dampens sound, XLP and XLP Plus motors run smoothly and are virtually noise-free.

Fans with XL and XLP Plus motors are ultra efficient, returning their cost in energy savings while adding value to your home. Because XLP and XLP Plus motors draw less than one amp of energy-the equivalent of a 100-watt lightbulb-the cost to operate the ceiling fan is only about 6 cents a day. This is 50 times less energy than that used by an air conditioner. Consumers can save up to 40% on cooling cost and 10% on heating cost by operating a Casablanca fan year-round.

All of these features combine to provide unparalleled power, silent performance and reliability over decades of daily use. Visit LightingSale.com for more Casablanca Fans.

Kitchen & Dining Lighting

Kitchen

The latest appliances can add value to your home; but the bigger impart can be how updates in your lighting reflects your unique lifestyle, while adding functionality to the space.

For example, cabinetry, floors and countertops in the kitchen all have a specific purpose and appropriate lighting is crucial.

To add task lighting in niche areas, inside cabinets and under cabinets, undercabinet lighting is essential to reduce shadows on the counter, while adding critical light to the workspace.

Mount mini pendants over a kitchen island to make activities on the counter, such as chopping chives or correcting homework, easier for you and your family members. Or add step lights around the island to keep loved ones from bumping into the area when tiptoeing in the kitchen for a midnight snack.

Dining Area

When you settle down to dinner in the dining room, all eyes are focused on the table. As a general rule of thumb, the bottom of the pendant or chandelier should be approximately 30” above table. And when you need to add more light to the centerpiece or a holiday meal, try aiming adjustable halogen recessed lighting fixtures directly on the tabletop.

There are also other key focal points in your dining areas that you might want friends and family members to notice. In this case, you can mix and match flexible, adjustable track heads and mini-pendants to showcase the items on display that make your home unique.

For a behind-the-scenes tip: recessed wall washers can provide additional light, while helping to create an illusion of larger space.

Everlume LED Lighting

With the Progress Everlume LED collection, it’s possible to illuminate any space in your home by choosing from a complete selection of fixtures, all of which feature bright and efficient LED lighting. The latest technology is applied to make options in the EVERLUME LED line – pendants, chandeliers, recessed lighting, step lights, cove lighting and outdoor lighting – an innovative alternative to traditional lighting solutions. Because LED technology represents the future of decorative lighting, Progress Lighting is pleased to announce more luminaires have been added to the collections and can be found in the following pages.

Green Friendly

Create a comfortable, inviting experience in your home while finding solace in the fact that you also are being kinder to the environment. When you choose to light rooms, foyers, paths and landscapes with EVERLUME, you can expect more than energy-saving benefits. Here are a few more reasons to consider switching to LED lighting.

Energy Efficient

LED options use two to five times less power than similar
incandescent sources.

Long Life

With normal home usage, illumination lasts more than
40,000 hours, or more than 20 years.

Warm White Color

EVERLUME fixtures feature high-brightness warm white LED
technology, resembling incandescent and halogen lamp
sources.

Dimmable

Most EVERLUME LED products are compatible with electronic
low voltage dimmers to dim the light output. Consult factory
for details.

Cool Operation

LED sources are cool-to-the-touch because they radiate a low
amount of heat. This means you can experience increased
safety over similar incandescent fixtures. Additionally, the low
heat decreases burdening air conditioning bills.

Energy Star

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Lighting and fans account for around twenty-five percent of all homes electricity bills. A great way to try and cut back this cost is by installing Energy Star rated lighting and fans. Energy Star products are not only good for putting money in your pocket but they are also very good for the environment. At ButlerLighting.com we offer a variety of Energy Star products.

If you are building or remolding a home I would definitely recommend going with all Energy Star rated products. As the savings you would receive in the electricity bills will pay for the fixtures themselves over time.

Another good idea is to update your lighting fixtures in the most used areas of the house. The areas that I would recommend updating indoors are the ceiling lights in your kitchen and any lights that are used in your family room or den. For your outdoor lighting updates I would look into new a post light or flood light that you may have on regularly.

The easiest and most cost effective way to have Energy Star products though is to install CFLs or compact fluorescent light bulbs. They are available in many different sizes so it should be easy for you to find one for any of your existing light fixtures that you may have.

Saving money and the environment with lighting! What more could you want?

With summer half over you shouldn’t miss out on spending as much time as possible outside. Whether that means going and enjoying a ball game, hanging out at the lake, or relaxing at home you should being keeping cool.

A great at home option for beating the heat are our outdoor ceiling fans. We have a very wide selection of outdoor ceiling fans in traditional, contemporary, transitional, and many other styles.

Here are my top five outdoor ceiling fans that we have at ButlerLighting.com:

This first fan is a Concept II F574-WH.  This is a very modern ceiling fan is one of the most popular ceiling fans out on the market.  It has a 52” blade sweep and has a white finish.  This fan is from MinkaAire.

Next we have the 21191.  This also a very modern fan with a 54” blade sweep and a new bronze finish.  The blades themselves are a made from fabric.  This fan comes from Hunter Fan Company.

That is followed by the 5VCBK.  This fan has more of a tropical feel to it as you can tell by looking at the fan blades.  The fan has a 54” blade sweep and has a all black finish.  This Monte Carlo fan is from the Vera Cruz Collection.

Here is the 41U546D. This fan is a little more traditional fan but it has an extra fan blade to help circulate more air.  But in addition to the extra blade it also has a smaller blade sweep at 45” with makes it perfect for your smaller outdoor areas.  The finish of the fan is brushed cocoa fan from Casablanca’s from the Wailea Family.

Finally we have the 143525-906.  This fan is a more traditional fan as it has a smaller motor with makes the blades appear to be larger and more spread out.  The blade sweep is 52” and this Quorum fan has a finish of white.
